Researchers develop a method to classify wines aged in barrels vs. wines macerated with chips

An important research group formed by universities from different appellations of origin (DO) together with prestigious research centers, have participated in the development of a method that simply shows whether a wine has been aged in barrels for a long time or has been flavored by adding fragments of wood to the wine. Both practices contribute aromas and wood notes to the wine, but prolonged barrel aging brings substantial differences in complexity, stability, refinement, aromatic and taste maturation in wines in an unequalled way. On the other hand, there remains the question that without proper regulation, it could become a fraud if the wine with a chip is offered as barrel-aged.

Wine Technology Platform Association Annual Meeting

On March 18, the 2014 Annual Meeting of the Wine Technology Platform Association took place in Jerez de la Frontera (Cadiz), on the occasion of its status as European City of Wine, which brought together more than 60 representatives of the National Wine Sector. Tonelería Murúa, as a partner, was present at this reference event.

Murua Cooperage at the Morales de Toro Wine Museum

The first interactive wine museum Pagos del Rey, located in the town of Morales de Toro (Zamora), opened its doors on February 15. The museum has the participation of the prestigious anthropologist specialized in vineyard landscapes in the world, Luis Vicente Elías, as responsible for the design and implementation of the same; along with Félix Solís Yáñez, President and CEO of Pagos del Rey.

Four red wines from the prestigious Luis Cañas winery score more than 91 Parker points

In the latest December edition of "The Wine Advocate (TWA)", a guide edited by wine expert Robert Parker, four red wines from the prestigious Luis Cañas winery have obtained at least 91 points. The wines "Luis Cañas Reserva 2008", "Luis Cañas Reserva Selección de la Familia 2008" and "Luis Cañas Gran Reserva 2005" have obtained 92, 92+ and 93 points respectively.

Imperial Gran Reserva 2004, chosen best wine of the year

From Tonelería Murua we are really proud to have collaborated with Cvne Rioja in its wine "Imperial Gran Reserva 2004", awarded by the prestigious American magazine "Wine Spectator", among the hundred best wines of the year arrived from all over the world to the United States. This is an event of great importance, as Imperial has become the first Spanish wine to achieve this recognition. Congratulations on this well-deserved award.
