The first back label for barrel-aged wines turns 40 years old
It was in April 1974 that the Control Board specified a model back label to differentiate between oak-aged crianza bottles of Rioja; the range was completed with the categories of reserva and gran reserva in 1980.
This has remained the case to the present day, and it is compulsory for every bottle of Rioja that comes on the market to carry the corresponding Board guarantee document.
