Toneleria Murúa manufactures for Crusoe Treasure, with the help of winemaker Antonio Palacios, the barrels adapted to the aging of wines in the deep sea. This innovative winery has selected the barrel designed by the technical team of Tonelería Murúa to expand its underwater project with the aging of wines in barrels located 20 meters deep, with all the influence of the Cantabrian Sea. The origins of Tonelería Murúa date back to the town of Elciego, in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. In the cooperage workshop of the historic Marqués de Riscal winery, Mr. Justo Murúa began a journey that today continues in the fourth generation. At that time, an era was marked that defined the style of wines throughout the Rioja Qualified Designation of Origin. Today, Tonelería Murúa continues with its traditional American oak barrels and continues to conquer new markets with French oak barrels. This is a reward for the efforts of the Murúa family and the many master coopers who have been shaping barrels with the "Murúa" seal, so distinguished and appreciated in the winemaking sector. Once again, our customers have received recognition for their good work. Tobía Selección 2008, from the prestigious Rioja winemaker Óscar Tobía, has been chosen by the international magazine Decanter as the best Rioja Crianza, being awarded the Bronze Medal at the "Decanter World Wine Awards 2012", which was held last May in London. We recently had the pleasure of welcoming the Ribera del Duero Winemakers Association to our facilities. We spent a whole morning touring the cooperage facilities, between the barrel immersion pool and the oak drying yard. At the same time, it is a source of pride to be able to transmit to the new generations of winemakers all the ins and outs of a profession as artisanal as cooperage, with the good "know-how" that we have inherited and preserved in Tonelería Murúa for four generations. We also took advantage of the day to visit the wineries of the Eguren family, good customers and friends. It was a day in which the Ribera winemakers felt at home, and we Riojanos felt very well accompanied. Thank you all and the doors are open for whenever you want to come back!

In the beginnings of Tonelería Murúa, the traditional cooper's iron seal was used for the fire marking on the bottom of the barrels. Later it was replaced by the laser, a faster and more precise method. Finally we have implemented the new QR system in our production.

Once again this year, the XI International Wine Competition organized by the Spanish Tasters Union, has decided to award numerous clients and friends with the prestigious "Baco de Oro" (Golden Bacchus). It is a recognition of the work and a prize for the great effort that winemakers and winegrowers develop for years to be able to present to the court, years later, the end of a path that began in the vineyard.
